La Survivance Animale

An animal rescue charity in the Yvelines that takes dogs out of the pound, treats them and finds them a family. It needed a site able to carry three things at once: getting dogs adopted, asking for donations, and telling the story of what happens in between.

The charity

La Survivance Animale is a French non-profit association based in Les Mureaux, in the Yvelines. Its work consists of taking dogs at risk or abandoned out of the pound — often small breeds, often victims of mistreatment — placing them with foster families, treating and microchipping them, then offering them for adoption with follow-up after placement.

That last point matters more than it looks. The charity’s aim is not to move dogs out quickly, but not to see them come back. A failed adoption means an animal going through abandonment all over again. So the site had to filter as much as it attracted.

What the site had to make possible

A rescue charity lives on three flows that have nothing in common with each other, and that nevertheless compete for the same home page:

  • Adopters, who want to see dogs, their stories and what is required to take one in.
  • Donors, who often arrive from a share on social media and leave within seconds if they cannot find how to help.
  • Foster families, who are looking for someone to talk to and for what is expected of them.

The classic trap is to pile everything into a menu and leave the visitor to sort it out. The choice made here was the opposite: each of those three paths is open from the first screen, without having to look for it.

The detail that counts: the “Donate” button does not live in the menu, but next to it, in its own colour and in the same place on every page. A donation is decided on a wave of emotion, in a few seconds — the time it takes to hunt for where to click is enough for the impulse to pass.

The site delivered

  • A home page that shows a dog, not a logo. “Des chiens pleins d’amour, en quête d’une famille” — dogs full of love, looking for a family: the subject is announced in one line, and the photograph does the rest.
  • An adoption section where each dog has its own profile — photograph, name, story — and where the charity adds and removes animals as placements happen.
  • A permanent donation appeal, present in the header and repeated full width further down the page under “How to help us”.
  • An “Our mission” page explaining how it all works — pound, foster family, care, followed-up adoption — because that is what reassures a hesitant adopter.
  • A news area for telling the story of rescues under way, the material the charity already shares every day on social media.
  • A contact form and full contact details, address included: a charity with no visible address inspires less confidence than a shelter you can go and see.

The technology

  • WordPress, chosen for a simple reason: the dogs change every week. A site the charity could not update itself would be out of date within a month.
  • A domain name of its own, lasurvivanceanimale.com, in the charity’s name — not a subdomain on a free platform, which you do not own and cannot take with you.
  • A build designed for the phone: most of a rescue charity’s traffic arrives from a Facebook or TikTok share, and therefore from a mobile.

The detail of the services — design, local SEO, hosting and maintenance — is on the services page.

The site today

Three things it does every day.

Adopt Every dog has its own profile and its own story. The charity adds them and removes them itself, at the pace of the placements.
Donate The donation appeal is visible from every page, in the same place, without having to hunt for it in a menu.
Reassure Mission, method, address and contacts are set out in black and white. A hesitant adopter can see who they are talking to.
